DALLAS (KRLD) - Uber has chosen Dallas to test out a new pricing structure for its scooters.

Starting next week, scooter riders will pay anywhere from 15 cents to 45 cents per minute based on what area the scooter is in. It will be higher in places where the scooters are typically used more.

SMU economist Mike Davis says Uber thinks highly of the metroplex.

"Its interesting to me how much Uber wants to be in Dallas. Its not surprising they would want to be in Dallas, but apparently they think its a good test market," he says.

But Davis says Uber has yet to turn a profit, and will test pricing structures, scooters, helicopters, you name it. They are going to try it and see what works," Davis says.

Earlier this year, Uber announced it will open an office in Deep Ellum that’s expected to grow to 3,000 employees.
