DALLAS (KRLD) - A city in Virginia is threatening to put kids it considers too old to trick or treat in jail.

Chesapeake, Virginia says kids older than 14 are too old to be out trick or treating Halloween night and police could fine and or jail any teen breaking that city code.

Teens can be fined anywhere from $25 to  $100 and could be jailed for up to six months for violating the code. The city also bans trick or treating after 8 p.m.

Police say they won't actively enforce the law if an older teen is out going door to door with a younger sibling.

The law has been on the books for 45 years but so far it has never been enforced.
