Democratic voters have decided who will face Beth Van Duyne in the fall for the congressional seat currently held by Kenny Marchant, who is retiring.

Candace Valenzuela was able to beat Kim Olson in the runoff election yesterday.

Valenzuala is a former Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD school board member. She also says as a child she was homeless and understands what low income families go through. She got the backing of big names in the party like Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.

She will now move on to face former Irving mayor Beth Van Duyne.

The Democratic party has promised to spend a lot of money trying to turn the district blue.

The seat has held by Republican Kenny Marchant since 1987.
