AUSTIN (KRLD) - Republican efforts to prevent all Texans from voting by mail was the top issue Air Force Veteran and Democratic Senate hopeful MJ Hegar brought up prior to voting at the Randalls Grocery Store in Round Rock on Thursday. Addressing reporters, Hegar took aim at those fighting to prevent mail-in voting for all.

“It's pretty ridiculous that we have to do this in person because we have a governor and legislature that can't seem to figure out, unlike 34 other States have been able to do, how to let us vote by mail safely and securely. But here we are because it's just too damn important to let them scare us into silence.”

Hegar defeated Dallas State Senator Royce West by more than 7-percentage points back in the March Primary. Now she finds herself facing off head-to-head with Senator West in the Primary Runoff Election on July 14th to see who will face Senator Cornyn in November.

Hegar refused to even acknowledge the other two candidates saying, “I don't consider myself running against anything. I am running for the people of Texas. I am running for the kids that are still in cages. I'm running for the millions of Texans that are unemployed and have lost health insurance and the millions of Texans before in the pandemic that didn't have health insurance.”

Friday is the last day for early voting for the Primary Runoff.
