FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Catholics packed churches across Texas Sunday to celebrate Easter, but many worshipers say they were thinking about the attacks in Sri Lanka.

At least 290 people were killed in a series of attacks at churches in Sri Lanka Easter Sunday.

"Persecution and suffering have always been a part of following Christ and being a member of His church," says Fort Worth Catholic Bishop Michael Olson.

Olson led Mass at St. Patrick Cathedral in Downtown Fort Worth Sunday. He says Mass was a chance for Catholics to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and thank God for His blessings.

"I hope they take with them a sense of hope and a sense of commitment to the purpose and mission of the church, which is the salvation of souls," Olson says.

He says he hopes Catholics in North Texas will find hope in plans to rebuild the churches in Sri Lanka.
