GREENVILLE (AP) - A new lake project to add to the North Texas water supply is progressing through the permitting process and is expected to be completed by 2025.

Lake Ralph Hall, named for the area's longtime congressman, is being developed along the North Sulphur River in Fannin County, 25 miles north of Greenville, Texas, and 63 miles northeast of Dallas.

Larry Patterson, executive director of the Upper Trinity Regional Water District, the lake's owner, tells the Greenville Herald-Banner that the lake is intended to reduce major erosion along the North Sulphur River bed. It's also planned to supplement the water supply for Fannin and Denton counties.
