NTSB: Gas Leaked Detected Almost Two Months Before Deadly Home Explosion

March 23, 2018 - 1:30 pm

DALLAS (KRLD) - A preliminary report released Friday by the National Transportation Safety Board reveals that gas leaks were detected in the Northwest Dallas neighborhood almost two months before a home explosion that killed a 12-year-old girl on February 23.

The report shows that there was corrosion and cracking in gas pipes that led to leaking and ultimately three home explosions.

According to the report, the leaks were discovered in the neighborhood as early as Jan. 1.

The NTSB says one of the cracks circles a gas line.

Following the explosions, nearly 3,000 homes were evacuated so that Atmos Energy could come in and replace gas lines in the neighborhood.
