WHITE SETTLEMENT (KRLD) - A man who led police in White Settlement on a chase for about 15 minutes this afternoon is hospitalized after he was shot by a White Settlement Police Officer. The incident started when a City Marshal for White Settlement pulled the man over for a traffic stop just after 12 noon.

"The marshal asked him to step out of the vehicle," said White Settlement Police Lieutenant Tim Denison. "The driver, while talking to the officer, began acting upset. He ran back his vehicle, jumped in the driver's seat of his truck, pulled out a gun and  put it to his head."

That's when the man drove off, leading police on a chase that ended on Meadow Park Drive near the scene of the original traffic stop. "The driver could be seen getting out of the vehicle with the gun pointed at his head," Lt. Denison said. A White Settlement Police Officer opened fire when the man refused to drop the weapon. He was taken by EMS to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth with serious injuries. The officer was not hurt.

Police have not released the name of the suspect or what type of warrants he had for his arrest. The Texas Rangers have been called in to investigate the case.
