Pretrial Motions Continue In Amber Guyger Murder Case

August 19, 2019 - 6:25 am

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - With jury selection just two weeks away, prosecutors and attorneys for former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger will be in court today to hash out more pre-trial motions.

The hearing will deal with some of the more routine matters in the run-up to a major trial, such as what witnesses and evidence will be allowed.

Both prosecutors and defense attorneys have subpoenaed a number of Dallas police officers. What will not be discussed is the defense's motion to move the trial out of Dallas County.

Judge Tammy Kemp has already said she wants to at least begin questioning prospective jurors to see if they can get a fair panel. If it becomes evident they cannot, the judge is willing to revisit the question of taking the case to another county.

Guyger is accused of shooting Botham Jean in his apartment last year, telling investigators she went to the wrong floor of her building and thought Jean was an intruder.
