Prosecutors Seek Death Penalty Against Man Accused Of Shooting Richardson Police Officer

COLLIN COUNTY (1080 KRLD) - The man who was arrested for the February shooting of a Richardson police officer has been indicted on a host of charges that includes capital murder.

26-year old Brandon McCall faces two capital murder charges for the February 7th shooting death of Richardson Police Officer David Sherrard and for the resident of the apartment where the shooting happened, Rene Gamez.

According to papers filed in Collin County Court, prosecutors will go after the death penalty.

Officer Sherrard was shot when police say they walked into an ambush.

McCall's lawyer Edwin King says the trial is a long way off.

McCall was also indicted on 7 counts of Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant for each of the police officers who took fire at the scene.
