DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A unwelcome visitor is rattling a bunch of nerves inside an East Texas Courthouse.

A huge raccoon is calling the part of the Panola County courthouse home and employees say it just won't leave. Cheyenne Lampley is the Panola County elections administrator. She says, "I was down on my end of the building. As I was getting ready to leave the office, I heard a blood curdling scream from a co-worker. I knew something had to be wrong but I was too scared to look."

Lampley says when she looked out her front office door she saw a huge raccoon running straight toward her. Lampley says, "So, I shut my office door so it couldn't get in and left her out there with it."

She then saw it at the front door jumping up trying to open the door to get out. Her co-worker opened the door so it could run out.

Lampley says, "We closed up all of our office doors that evening. It came back through during the night. It tore the whole building apart. It messed up ceiling tiles. It broke glass from Christmas decorations. It destroyed plants and the carpet. It created a huge hole. Insulation was everywhere. It was just a real mess."

She says crews found a huge hole outside of one of the back doors of the building. She says crews are not going to be able to fix the huge holes in the ceiling until after the first of the year.

Lampley says people are hiding stuff just in case the raccoon returns.

Lampley says, "When I got home that first night, it was kinda funny. All I could think of was that scene out of the movie "Uncle Buck" where the raccoons are going crazy."
