A 24-year-old woman in Utah has died from coronavirus while five people from her household have fallen ill.

Silvia Deyanira Melendez passed away on Saturday, according to Salt Lake Tribune.

Her father, Marcos Melendez, was the first to contract the novel virus two weeks ago.

“When I talked to the doctor, she said if I had [symptoms] or anyone in my family had it, we’re supposed to [assume] we’re positive,” he said over the phone.

All members of the family either tested positive or displayed symptoms of the virus.

Soon after, Melendez’s wife and two sons became infected along with his late daughter.

Silvia and her mother were both admitted to the hospital on March 20th with severe breathing problems, according to the outlet.

While the 49-year-old mother is on the mend and was sent home from the hospital, Silvia's situation worsened, likely because she suffered from diabetes and underwent heart surgery two years ago.

The outlet reports that she was sedated and placed on a breathing tube before her death.

“Her oxygen level started getting better, but the last day her heart started beating too fast,” her brother’s girlfriend, Angelica Macias, revealed.

Her brother, Xander Melendez said his sister was a “fighter,” adding, “she fought a lot of things in her life.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up in her honor where she was described as “one of the most loving, thoughtful, kind-hearted people.”

Similarly, a family of five in St. Louis County also tested positive for the virus.

On Sunday, Utah’s health department listed 719 cases and two deaths.
