Record Demand Expected For Texas Power Grid

May 31, 2018 - 12:33 pm

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Blistering heat across Texas this week could lead to record demand on the state's power grid.

Leslie Sopko with Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) says nobody expected to see temperatures around 100-degrees, this early in the year.

But with many power plants offline for annual maintenance, officials are not concerned about not meeting demands.

"Many of those units are expected to come back online in early June, and will be available to help meet demand this summer" said Sopko.

Sopko says even with the surprising early arrival of summertime temperatures, Texas has more than enough reserve power to keep up with people trying to squeeze more cool air out of their home A/C units.
