DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A dispute over a dog in Addison has come to an end with the dog being returned to its most recent owner.

John Baxa and his boyfriend had adopted the dog in Austin in 2016. They were visiting his boyfriend's family in Addison when the dog broke loose from the house.

They found the dog at a shelter, but when the shelter scanned its microchip, the previous owner's name came up. Baxa had adopted the dog in 2016, but the previous owner wanted the dog back.

Baxa says the microchip registered to him had a 14-digit number instead of 15.

Addison's city lawyer met with Baxa's lawyer and lawyers from Austin. The city has now decided to return the dog to Baxa.

The previous owner was allowed to adopt another dog from Addison's shelter at no cost.
