RICHARDSON (1080 KRLD) - The Richardson ISD is giving students the day off on Tuesday, November 6th...election day.

District officials have modified their academic calendar to set that as a student holiday and staff development day.

Many Richardson ISD campuses serve as polling places. The RISD's announcement says that the change is being made as a precaution due to the "thousands of unregistered visitors who gain access to RISD schools" on election day.

Staffers and some daytime care students will still be on campus on election day, so the district will work to isolate voting areas at schools from the rest of the campus and monitor visitors.

The school district says the new calendar remains in compliance with state requirements.
