DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - North Texans can drop off their expired or unwanted medication at designated sites across the Metroplex on Saturday during the 'Drug Take Back' day.

"We'll pretty much take anything," said Plano Police Officer David Tilley. "We cannot take needles, injectables, inhalers, EpiPens and things such as that."

Police and fire departments host "Drug Take Back Days" every year. "It's a huge deal. A lot of people don't know what to do with them. Last year, we collected 4,400 pounds of drugs. There's always the susceptibility to misuse and abuse" said Tilley. "A lot of people flush this stuff down their toilets or throw them in the trash which can cause health and safety issues. They need to be disposed of properly."

Illegal drugs will not be accepted.
