Secret Shopper Scams Popping Up In North Texas

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A new scam hitting North Texas includes a letter and a big check asking people to become secret shoppers for Walgreens.
The drug store chain Walgreens wants people to know it's all a scam, insisting it is not involved in any secret shopper or survey program.
The scam arrives in the mail and asks victims to deposit a check then go to Walgreens, and a few other retailers, to buy e-Bay gift cards.
The premise is they want you to evaluate customer service at the stores where you buy the gift cards.
Of course the check is fake, and if you deposit it you could be giving the scammers access to your bank account. And because the check and account it is drawn from are fake, a bank will reject it and remove the funds from your account. By that time, scammers usually have the gift cards and you will be held liable for the charges.
