DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - With dry weather in the forecast, the Texas Department of Transportation is closing several highways and ramps in North Texas this weekend for ongoing construction projects.

TxDOT will shut down both directions of I-35E at Illinois Avenue, in Oak Cliff, at 9 p.m. Friday night. Traffic will have the exit at Illinois, continue across the intersection and then get back on the main lanes at the next ramp. Both directions of Illinois will be closed across I-35E as well.

During the closure, crews will perform work on the Illinois Avenue overpass. The construction is part of the $666 million "Southern Gateway" project. TxDOT is widening I-35E and Highway 67 south of downtown Dallas to Interstate 20.

That closure is scheduled to continue through 8 a.m. Saturday.

In Collin County, the exits from George Bush Turnpike to northbound U.S. 75 will be closed Friday night.

The ramp from eastbound Bush Turnpike to northbound 75 is scheduled to be closed from 8 p.m. Friday through Tuesday, July 16 at 5 a.m. The closure of the ramp from westbound Bush Turnpike to northbound 75 is scheduled to last from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Saturday, July 20.

The City of Plano says traffic will be detoured to the frontage road of Bush Turnpike and then to the frontage road of 75. To handle the increase in traffic, Plano has installed a temporary signal at the intersection of the two frontage roads. Traffic on the northbound 75 frontage road will also be able to use a bypass lane that runs under Plano Parkway, which will let traffic avoid the traffic light there.
