SOUTHLAKE (1080 KRLD) - A North Texas couple could be heading to prison for years after being found guilty of keeping a young girl as a free laborer for more than a decade.

A federal court found Mohamad Toure and his wife Denise guilty yesterday for holding a girl for 16 years of forced labor.

Court repors say the girl was only 5-years-old when she was brought from west Africa to the US.

Prosecutors say the Toures forced her to do the household's chores and also care for their other kids, all while not giving her the opportunity to go to school or make friends.

In 2016, some neighbors helped the victim escape the house. She's in her 20s now and testifed that the Toures physically and emotionally abused her.

Attorneys for the family claimed she wasn't a victim.

The Toures are now in custody and could face decades in prison.
