DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A Galveston man who identifies as a Sovereign Citizen has been convicted on child pornography charges.

56-year-old  John David Knowlton says he's a Sovereign Citizen. They typically reject taxation and maintain that they are "free of any legal constraints."

In February 2016, police online found his IP address contained images of child pornography.  A search of his home discovered 18 electronic devices containing thousand of such pictures and hundreds of  videos.

Knowlton's argument before the  judge that the federal judicial system had no jurisdiction over him didn't work

U.S. District Judge George C. Hanks Jr. found him guilty following a two-day bench trial. During trial, the court heard testimony from multiple law enforcement officers and a Comcast custodian of records.

Knowlton faces a minimum of five and up to 20 years for the receipt of child pornography and up to 10 years imprisonment for the possession charge when he's sentenced August 28, 2019.  He remains in custody.
