State's Largest Police Unions Want Dallas County DA Removed From Office

April 18, 2019 - 9:52 am

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - If one of the state's largest police unions has it's way, the Dallas County DA will be booted from office over his plan to reduce mass incarcerations in Dallas County.

The president of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, or CLEAT, said in a written statement that DA John Creuzot's plan was "unacceptable."

Creuzot says his office will no longer prosecute most first-time marijuana offenses and theft of personal items worth less than $750, unless the theft was for financial gain.

Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata says this will further escalate criminal activity.

Creuzot's office put out a statement clarifying his plan, and the DA himself says things can change.

A police union press conference will be held Thursday afternoon.
