Police: Suspect In 2017 Fort Worth Sexual Assault Arrested In Georgia

July 11, 2018 - 8:40 am

FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) -Fort Worth police have identified a suspect in a sexual assault last year along the Trinity Trails.

A woman says a naked man attacked her last September. She fought him off, but police had not made an arrest.

"It was concerning we had a man running around the Trinity Trails naked that showed a propensity for being violent," says Captain Deven Pitt. "This particular assault was pretty violent."

Police released a sketch after the attack, but they did not get any leads. They released the sketch again this spring and got an anonymous tip.

The tip led them to Justin Ray. He was in jail in Georgia for theft.

Pitt says Ray may have been staying under bridges along the Trinity Trails.

"He's homeless, so he doesn't have any transportation," Pitt says. "Between this attack and how he got to Waycross, Georgia, he's been getting around any way he can."

Pitt says detectives went to Georgia, and Ray admitted the assault.

Ray has a history that includes an arrest for indecent exposure at UT-Arlington. Police are also looking at whether he was responsible for another sexual assault along the Trinity Trails last August.

Police are now waiting for Ray to be extradited. He will face charges of aggravated assault and aggravated sexual assault.
