DENTON (KRLD) - The Denton County Sheriff's Office has arrested 10 people on charges of online solicitation of a minor.

They were apprehended as part of an undercover operation in cooperation with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Investigators went undercover on-line to pose as kids in chat rooms and on social media sites to find people attempting to have sex with children under the age of 17. The deputies would engage with the suspects on-line to find out if they would then try to arrange a real-world meeting.

"Every one of these people actually showed up to the location expecting to meet an under-age male or female child and engage in sex," said Denton County Sheriff Tracy Murphree. "What they met with instead were a lot of police officers and they were taken into custody."

Ten people who actually showed up for those meetings with the intent of having sex with an under-aged person were arrested. Three other people who arranged for meetings but did not show up have warrants out for their arrest.

"This operation was a huge success, and I am extremely proud of all the dedicated officers that worked long hours to take these predators off the street," Sheriff Murphree said. "This type of operation should open the eyes of parents and other citizens to the dangers that lurk on the internet."
