DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Synagogues across the country have been reviewing their security procedures after the deadly mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburg, PA. That includes Jewish congregations in north Texas.

"We have great partners with the Anti-Defamation League, the local police and FBI," said Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville. "We have attended trainings. We've had the police do walk-throughs at our building so we can improve our security."

The congregation is working on a series of ongoing security improvements. Rabbi Cytron-Walker says security was a priority even before the shooting in Pittsburgh.

"It's unfortunately something that not only us in the Jewish community has to do, it's unfortunately something that every religious institution probably needs to do as well," he said. "It doesn't matter - our race, our religion, our background...this type of event can happen to almost anyone."
