Tarrant County Woman Fighting For New Trial After Illegal Voting Conviction
FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A Tarrant County woman is continuing her fight for a new trial. She's already been sentenced to five years in prison for illegally voting.
Earlier this week, Judge Ruben Gonzalez denied Crystal Mason's motion for a new trial. Mason was convicted of illegally voting in the 2016 general election while on supervised release after completing a prison sentence for tax fraud.
Mason says she regrets voting in the election.
"I wish that I never, ever, went up there to vote" said Mason."I wouldn't be right here today."
Before Judge Gonzalez convicted and sentenced her in a bench trial earlier this year, the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office offered her ten years probation in a plea deal. She and her attorney rejected that deal.
Mason remains free on bond as her appeals process moves forward.
