Texas Democrats Gather In Fort Worth For Weekend Convention

June 22, 2018 - 5:10 am

FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Thousands of Democrats from across Texas are spending the weekend in Fort Worth for the state Democratic convention.

Congressman Marc Veasey serves as chair of the convention taking place at the Fort Worth Convention center downtown, but he had to stay in Washington for a vote on Immigratin.

Delegates say they believe immigration is showing a break in the Republican party, and that could give Lupe Valdez a chance to beat Governor Greg Abbott in November.

“Greg Abbott is a Trump puppet. We are putting that on our platform as a way to say, ‘We know what to do. We can fix this problem" said a delegate.

But a poll shows Governor Abbott with a 53-34 percent lead over Valdez.

Visit Fort Worth says it's expecting nearly 9,000 people this weekend, and they've booked 6,500 hotel rooms.
