Texas Governor Activating "State Operations Center"

September 11, 2018 - 5:28 am

AUSTIN (1080 KRLD) - Governor Greg Abbott is activating the Texas "State Operations Center" in case a system develops into a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.

The National Hurricane Center says a system near the Yucatan Peninsula has a chance of developing into a tropical storm over the next few days, and it's forecast to move toward the Texas coast.

Abbott says some parts of Texas have already seen heavy rainfall over the past week, and more rain could cause flash flooding.

He's put TXDOT, the Department of Public Safety, the Red Cross and Salvation Army on alert for potential evacuations or damage.
