Texas High School Football Preview: Week 10, Playoff Picture

THURSDAY's GAMES

4-6A

ARLINGTON (8-0, 5-0) at ARLINGTON SAM HOUSTON (2-6, 2-3)

Arlington has already clinched a playoff spot, and will go into the 6A Division 2 bracket.

Colts hope to set up showdown with unbeaten Arlington Lamar for district championship next week.

 

5-6A

KELLER (6-2, 3-2) vs. KELLER FOSSIL RIDGE (5-3, 3-2)

Both teams are fighting for playoff position...as it stands, Keller would go into 6A Division 1 playoff bracket, while Fossil Ridge would go into Division 2 in playoffs.

 

7-6A

DeSOTO (7-1, 4-1) at SOUTH GRAND PRAIRIE (4-4, 3-2)

DeSoto is currently tied for district lead with Cedar Hill and Mansfield Lake Ridge. Eagles already have a loss to Lake Ridge, and play Cedar Hill next week to close out regular season.

South Grand Prairie is tied for fourth place in district, but holds tiebreaker over Mansfield Summit. DeSoto and SGP would both go into 6A Division 1 bracket in playoffs.

 

10-6A

GARLAND NAAMAN FOREST (3-5, 3-2) at GARLAND (1-7, 1-4)

Naaman Forest comes off big 24-17 overtime win over Wylie to pick up important playoff tiebreaker. Naaman Forest would go 6A Division 2 in playoffs.

 

11-6A

ROCKWALL (6-2, 4-1) at MESQUITE (6-2, 3-1)

Rockwall was powerful on offense and defense last week, beating Tyler Lee, 66-0...QB Jacob Clark threw for 365 yards and 4 TD...this game is crucial for playoff positioning.

Mesquite is headed for the 6A Division 1 playoff bracket, and the same is likely for Rockwall, although it would slide to Division 2 if North Mesquite makes the postseason.

 

FRIDAY'S GAMES

3-6A

ABILENE (5-4, 2-3) at EULESS TRINITY (6-1, 3-1)

Trinity returns after a bye week...Abilene is among several teams fighting for last playoff spot in district.

Euless Trinity will go into 6A Division 1 playoff bracket.

 

RICHLAND (3-5, 1-3) at WEATHERFORD (3-5, 1-3)

Weatherford comes off huge win over Abilene last week. Kangaroos QB Ken Seals torched Abilene for 327 yards and 4 TD.

Richland and Weatherford also fighting for fourth playoff spot - whoever gets in will be in 6A Division 2 bracket.

 

HALTOM (8-0, 4-0) vs. HURST L.D. BELL (1-7, 0-4)

Haltom is headed to playoffs in back-to-back years for first time since 1997-98...looks to pick up two more wins and complete undefeated regular season. Haltom will compete in 6A Division 2 playoff bracket.

 

4-6A

ARLINGTON LAMAR (8-0, 5-0) vs. ARLINGTON BOWIE (6-2, 4-1)

Lamar cannot overlook strong Bowie team in anticipation of showdown with unbeaten Arlington High for district championship next week. Lamar Vikings will compete in 6A Division 1 playoff bracket, while Bowie is headed for Division 2 in postseason.

 

ARLINGTON MARTIN (3-5, 3-2) vs. FORT WORTH PASCHAL (2-6, 1-4)

After rough start to season, Martin Warriors are in good position to grab fourth playoff spot in district...they would go into the Division 1 playoff bracket in 6A.

 

5-6A

TROPHY CLUB BYRON NELSON (1-7, 1-4) at DENTON GUYER (5-3, 4-1)

Guyer sits in second place in district behind unbeaten Southlake Carroll. Guyer has won 5 of 6 since being shut out in back-to-back games to open the season. Guyer is headed for 6A Division 2 playoff bracket.

 

SOUTHLAKE CARROLL (8-0, 5-0) at HASLET EATON (5-3, 2-3)

Carroll Dragons are headed to playoffs for 19th consecutive year...they will go into the 6A Division 1 playoff bracket.

Eaton still has slim chance at playoff berth.

 

6-6A

COPPELL (6-2, 4-1) vs. FLOWER MOUND (6-2, 5-0)

Coppell looking to grab at least a share of district title. Cowboys would go into 6A Division 1 playoff bracket.

Flower Mound has had breakout year, with first winning season since 2010...they will go into the Division 2 playoff bracket.

 

LEWISVILLE (6-2, 4-1) vs. HEBRON (5-3, 3-2)

Lewisville Fighting Farmers tied for second in district with Coppell. Lewisville would go into 6A Division 1 playoff bracket.

Hebron is currently holding the fourth and final playoff spot, with tiebreakers over Flower Mound Marcus and Irving MacArthur...Hebron would go into the 6A Division 2 playoff bracket.

 

7-6A

WAXAHACHIE (1-7, 0-5) at MANSFIELD SUMMIT (4-3, 3-2)

Waxahachie looking to be playoff spoiler.

Summit is currently tied for fourth place in district with South Grand Prairie, but SGP holds tiebreaker...if Summit should get in, they would go to 6A Division 2 playoff bracket.

 

CEDAR HILL (7-1, 4-1) vs. MANSFIELD (2-6, 1-4)

Cedar Hill is one of three teams (DeSoto, Mansfield Lake Ridge) tied for first in district...Longhorns face DeSoto next week...Cedar Hill likely headed for 6A Division 2 playoff bracket.

 

8-6A

DUNCANVILLE (7-0, 5-0) at RICHARDSON (5-3, 3-2)

Duncanville has clinched a playoff spot, will go into 6A Division 1 playoff bracket. Panthers have allowed a total of 26 points in seven games this season.

Richardson is among three teams fighting for last two playoff spots...if they get in, they will go into 6A Division 2.

 

LAKE HIGHLANDS (4-4, 3-2) vs. DALLAS MOLINA (0-8, 0-5)

Lake Highlands also among three-team scramble for last two playoff spots...if they get in, they will go into 6A Division 2.

 

9-6A

ALLEN (8-0, 5-0) vs. PROSPER (7-1, 4-1)

Allen - the largest high school in the state - will be among the favorites in 6A Division 1. Eagles going for 25th straight win this week. Allen is in the playoffs for the 20th consecutive year.

Prosper also in great position, could share district title with upset win over Allen...Prosper will go into the 6A Division 2 playoff bracket.

 

PLANO (4-4, 3-2) at McKINNEY BOYD (2-6, 2-3)

Surging Plano Wildcats ran for 432 yards last week vs. Jesuit - RB Tylan Hines had 248 and 3 TD. Plano is currently tied for third in district, would go into 6A Division 2 playoff bracket.

Boyd and McKinney are tied for fifth, still have shot at playoffs.

 

PLANO EAST (6-2, 3-2) at PLANO WEST (0-8, 0-5)

Plano East greatly helped playoff chances last week with thrilling overtime win over McKinney. PESH would go into 6A Division 1 playoff bracket.

 

McKINNEY (2-6, 2-3) at DALLAS JESUIT (2-6, 1-4)

McKinney still has outside shot at playoffs.

Jesuit can seal Lions' fate this week.

 

10-6A

SACHSE (5-3, 5-0) vs. SOUTH GARLAND (2-6, 0-5)

After shaking off 0-3 start, Sachse has rolled through district play, will compete in 6A Division 1 playoff bracket.

 

WYLIE (3-5, 3-2) vs. NORTH GARLAND (5-2, 2-3)

Wylie currently holding onto final playoff spot, so North Garland really needs a win. Wylie would go into the 6A Division 2 bracket, but if North Garland gets in, they would go Division 1 and bump Rowlett to 6A Division 2.

 

ROWLETT (6-1, 4-1) at GARLAND LAKEVIEW CENTENNIAL (4-3, 2-3)

Rowlett gearing up for postseason - they will compete in 6A Division 1.  Lakeview Centennial is still mathematically alive for playoffs.

 

11-6A

NORTH MESQUITE (3-4, 1-3) at MESQUITE HORN (1-7, 1-3)

These two are among four teams that are 1-3 and fighting for final playoff spot in district...should North Mesquite get into playoffs, they would go 6A Division 1 and send Rockwall into Division 2 bracket.

Horn would be in Division 2 should they make playoffs.

 

4-5A-1

COLLEYVILLE HERITAGE (4-4, 3-2) at BIRDVILLE (8-0, 5-0)

Colleyville Heritage looking to spoil Birdville's unbeaten season, improve playoff positioning...with a win, Birdville can set up showdown for district title with unbeaten Denton Ryan next week.

 

GRAPEVINE (7-1, 4-1) vs. DENTON RYAN (8-0, 5-0)

Grapevine could still grab share of district title with upset of Ryan.

Denton Ryan hosts undefeated Birdville next week.

 

5-5A-1

THE COLONY (7-1, 5-0) at FRISCO INDEPENDENCE (5-3, 3-2)

The Colony clinches the district title with a win this week.

 

6-5A-1

LANCASTER (5-2, 5-0) at HIGHLAND PARK (8-0, 5-0)

Lancaster has clinched a playoff spot after missing the postseason during a disappointing 4-6 season in 2017.

Highland Park has allowed a total of 21 points in five district games...this game likely will decide the district title.

 

7-5A-1

TYLER JOHN TYLER (5-2, 4-0) at MESQUITE POTEET (7-1, 4-0)

Battle for district championship...John Tyler has won four straight.

Poteet has won seven in a row, with their only loss to 8-0 Denton Ryan.

 

6-5A-2

RED OAK (7-1, 4-1) vs. DALLAS SPRUCE (2-6, 2-3)

DALLAS SOUTH OAK CLIFF (7-0, 5-0) at DALLAS KIMBALL (7-1, 4-1)

 

8-5A-2

CORSICANA (8-1, 7-0) at ENNIS (3-4, 3-3)

Corsicana looks to wrap up perfect record in district play, Ennis trying to hold onto fourth playoff spot.

Ennis is at Greenville next week.​
