DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The state of Texas is now issuing new temporary car tags.

The paper license plates which are put on by the dealer when you buy a car will have a new design and safeguards to cut down on people driving with fake tags.

According to the Texas DMV, new temporary tags will have bigger letters and numbers and a bar code that can be scanned by police, making it more difficult for them to be forged.

The new system went into effect earlier this week, but the DMV says the old tags will still be on the road for the next 60 days since tags issued prior to the change have not expired yet.
