ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - It’s a day that changes Arlington forever. The grand opening of Texas Live! got underway Thursday night with a VIP party.

Dignitaries including Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams, were on hand to christen the entertainment venue that sits between Globe Life Park and the upcoming Globe Life Field.

Pudge Rodriguez invited folks to his place.

“My place is going to be right up there on the second floor. It’s called Pudge’s Pizza,” the Baseball Hall of Famer told the VIP crowd during the opening ceremony. “Please come over, we’re going to have really good pizza.”

Pudge isn’t the only legendary sports figure to have a place here at Texas Live!.

Troy Aikman owns and operates Troy’s, which focuses on burgers and margaritas.

Judging by Aikman’s remarks during the opening ceremony, there might be a little rivalry brewing between the two Hall of Famers in their respective sports.

“Pudge serves pizza. I serve primarily gourmet burgers,” noted Aikman. “He’s too good of a friend to be in competition with him, but I sure hope you all like burgers a little bit more than you like pizza.”

Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams noted the city’s can-do spirit.

“This place was built in a year and a half — a record time,” said Mayor Williams. “We’re looking forward to future phases.”

After the VIP Party, it was time to let the general public in for the first time — and folks were quite impressed.

“It’ll be a good place to hang out and have a cold drink and watch the game,” notes one visitor.

A few people said that Texas Live! is much bigger than they had anticipated.

“I’m excited about the concert venue (Arlington Backyard) and all the things that it’s going to bring to this area,” another visitor said.

Texas Live! will be a huge shot in the arm for Arlington’s economy, creating some 800 permanent jobs.

The construction cranes are not gone from the site, however. Work continues at the Live! by Loews upscale hotel, which will welcome it’s first guests next year.
