DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Nearly 30-years after a Highland Park Doctor is murdered, there is finally an indictment in the case.

According to court records, 57-year old George Guo is now under indictment for capital murder in the June 1988 rape and killing of Doctor Katherine Bascone.

Guo was arrested in Houston in June on this year.

Dr. Bascone was raped and strangled in her Highland Park home in 1988. She suffered irreversable brain damage and remained in a vegetative state for nearly 30 years before she died of complications in February 2018.

There was DNA from a rape kit, but there wasn't anything like DNA testing in the 80's and the statute of limitations on the rape charge eventually expired. But when Dr. Bascone died, it became a murder case - and there isn't a statute of limitations on murder.

The DNA kit was pulled off the shelf and run through a database, and it lead to Guo.

The state will decide whether to seek the death penalty.

Guo's bond is set at $5 million.
