COLLEYVILLE (1080 KRLD) - A doctor with a cosmetic surgery clinic in North Texas is facing a lengthy complaint from the Texas Medical Board.

Dr. Jon Peter Ver Halen of Colleyville is accused of harming patients, wrongly prescribing drugs, and failing to keep proper financial records.

Dr. Ver Halen currently operates Ver Halen Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery in Colleyville, although many of the issues documented in the Texas Medical Board's complaints occurred when he worked at other clinics.

In one instance, the Board says Dr. Ver Halen performed liposuction on a patient by himself with no support staff. The procedure allegedly took place in an office that was not properly equipped for surgery.

The patient told the Texas Medical Board that Ver Halen watched football during the entire procedure, and the Board's complaint indicates that Ver Halen confirmed that. The patient later described the surgery as "botched".

The complaint itemizes several other incidents of surgeries occurring in un-approved locations without the appropriate support staff. The Board states that in many of these cases, Ver Halen was billing patients personally at a lower rate instead of billing through the clinic where he worked at the standard rate. The complaint states that this caused problems on at least one occasion when a patient reported to the clinic for a follow-up appointment only to find the clinic did not have their medical records.

Dr. Ver Halen is also accused of mis-prescribing prescription medications. The Board's complaint says he wrote prescriptions for weight-loss drugs for several patients without examining them first. The Board also alleges than Ver Halen improperly prescribed a variety of strong pain medications including Xanax, Valium and Oxycodone to a person with whom he was having an extra-marital affair.

The Board has set of deadline of later this month for Dr. Ver Halen to file a written response to the complaint. He is also entitled to a hearing.
