DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Several Texas Republicans are applauding President Trump's nomination of judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

Republican Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz are both applauding the selection along with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton who says Cavanaugh is well-qualified.

Other Republicans supporting President Trump's nomination include the former President George W. Bush who appointed Kavanaugh to the Washington D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals 15 years ago.

That 2003 appointment followed Kavanaugh's two years in the White House where he served as a memeber of President Bush's legal staff.

Through procedural rules, Kavanaugh's confirmation was delayed for three years. Immediately after the announcment last night, Mr. Bush put a statement calling Kavanaugh a "brilliant jurist who has faithfully applied the Constitution and laws throughout his 12 years on the DC Circuit."

Calling Kavanaugh a "man of the highest integrity" Mr. Bush says he will "make a superb Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States."
