DENTON (1080 KRLD) - A North Texas school district has voted to allow some employees to carry handguns on campus.

The Denton School Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to allow staff with law enforcement experience to carry weapons on campus.

District employees with experience as a law enforcement officer, with current Texas Commission on Law Enforcement certifications will be allowed to carry handguns.

Employees who have concealed-carry licenses but aren’t former law officers, cannot bring guns on campus.

Those who choose to carry must go through the same training that the district’s school resource officers do.

The policy goes into effect immediately.
