Texas Voters To Decide Runoff Elections

May 22, 2018 - 6:23 am

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Voters in Texas will head back to the polls today for run-off elections in races where no candidate won 50 percent of the vote in the March primary.

Former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez beat Andrew White for the Democratic nomination, but with just 43 percent of the vote.

After the primary, Valdez said she was criss-crossing the state to build support.

Voters in North Texas have several Congressional races on the ballot.

Republican Jeb Hensarling is retiring from his seat covering areas east of Dallas.

Republican Sam Johnson is also retiring from his seat in Collin County.  State Senator Van Taylor won the Republican nomination to replace him, but Lorie Burch and lawyer Sam Johnson, no relation to the Congressman, are in a run-off for the Democratic nomination.
