DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - If you do nothing else today, make sure you're registered to vote in the upcoming midterm elections.Today is National Voter Registration Day.

There's a lot at stake this year in the elections, and today is meant to remind people of the importance of voting.

It's easy to check whether you're registered to vote. Sites like votetexas.gov can check your status when you put in your basic information. Even if you aren't registered or need to re-register, it's easy to fill out and mail an application.

When those midterm elections arrive, you'll need a photo ID at the polls. There are seven different forms that are acceptable, though most of us will use our driver's license.

If you do not have a photo ID and have a reasonable excuse, you can fill out a certain form and then show an alternative ID like a pay stub or utility bill.

Voter registration ends October 9. Early voting starts Oct 22.
