DALLAS (KRLD) - Dallas based Heritage Auctions is auctioning off some of Tom Petty's most prized possessions.

Tom Petty's personal 1965 Gibson SG Cherry Electric guitar is one of the items. He played it during his tour with Bob Dylan. The guitar, which is signed by Petty, is the first instrument owned by the musician to be offered at auction since his death last year.

Gary Schrum with Heritage Auctions says they are also auctioning off  Petty's signature top hat. He wore it on tour and in two Traveling Wilburys music videos.

"Tom Petty's signature is inside the hat," Schrum says, and as far as the collection's value at auction, he says, "it is such a wild card. I hope it goes for $400,000 or $500,000 dollars. "

Other items up for auction include another Tom Petty guitar and four jackets he wore on tours.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to support Petty's favorite charities: The Midnight Mission and The Tazzy Animal Rescue Fund.

The auction is July 21 in Dallas.
