ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - I-30 in Arlington will be the topic of a TxDOT public meeting this evening. The focus is on the express lanes between Cooper St. and the Bush Turnpike.

"The ultimate configuration was supposed to have reversible express lanes running through I-30," says TxDOT spokesman Val Lopez.

The current configuration is one lane in each direction, and Lopez says it's actually working very well.

"Basically, what it comes down to is that the system is working very well as it is, and we want to formalize the current way it's configured," says Lopez.

In order to do that, TxDOT must hold a public meeting. It's an open house format and runs from 6:00 to 8:00 this evening at the Hilton Arlington Hotel, 2401 E. Lamar Blvd., Arlington.

Maps and other illustrations will be on display, and attendees will be able to ask questions and offer feedback.

Work Continues On I-30/SH 360 Direct Connectors

Speaking of I-30, work on the direct connectors to 360 continues, and you should get ready for some major traffic headaches.

"Later on this fall, we will have our first Interstate closure during a weekend," says Lopez. "That is necessary to demolish bridges over the I-30 mainlanes, the old bridges."

TxDOT hasn't decided what weekend that closure will take place. When it does, the detour will be Division St.

"It is a pretty severe detour, but it's necessary because we simply can't demolish those (bridges) with traffic underneath. There's not a safe way to execute that," says Lopez.

The direct connectors are scheduled to be completed in 2020.
