DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Officials at UNT-Dallas cut the ribbon on their new Student Center this week.

The new Student Center cost $63 million and is the largest building on campus. The building has a 500-person meeting hall and offices for a variety of student services.

The building may seem large based on the school's current enrollment of approximately 3,700 students, but UNT-Dallas President Bob Mong says it was designed to serve the campus for years to come.

"We've been growing so fast," he said. "We're officially the fastest-growing state university in Texas by percentage, so we really need this extra space for our students."

The building will house student support services, a tutoring center, and a Campus Hall and conference space. "There's a lot of room for students to study individually or do projects collectively," Mong said. "There's a huge meeting hall in the middle. When it's not in use students can break it up into smaller study areas."

The building was designed with the needs of the student population in mind. "We had students, staff and faculty helping plan this center," Mong said. "I think when you involve students in the planning,  they're less likely to criticize what the final outcome is because they had something to say about it."
