UT Arlington Celebrating Opening Of $67.5 Mil Building Project

ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) The University of Texas at Arlington is celebrating the opening of a $67.5 million project.

The college is having grand openings today for two new buildings on its West Campus. The project includes a residence hall and a student center with dining facilities.

The $46.5 million West Hall has 534 beds to accommodate the growing number of students who live on campus. UTA officials say they currently have about 10,000 students living on campus or within walking distance.

The new $21 million student center and dining hall is called The Commons. It features a study, lounge and meeting spaces. The dining room offers Italian, Mediterranean and traditional dishes.

The West Campus is at 440 Nedderman Drive, just north of the Maverick Activities Center

UTA officials say the current total campus enrollment is about 42,000. That includes commuters and those living on campus. Globally, the college has about 58,000 students (online, on campus and commuting).
