Valdez Defeats White For Dem Nod To Run For Governor

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez wins the Democratic runoff to become Texas' first openly gay and first Latina governor nominee.

Valdez has defeated Andrew White in Tuesday's Democratic runoff for governor.

The Associated Press has declared Valdez the winner with 52.8% of the vote.

She now faces the much better-known and more experienced Republican incumbent, Governor Greg Abbott, in the November general election.
