IRVING (1080 KRLD) - A North Texas police officer says he is lucky to be alive after a driver slams into his motorcycle on the freeway.

Irving Police Officer Sam Hall says he was working traffic enforcement and had pulled a vehicle over on the shoulder. He says in the next instant...his life flashed before his eyes.

"As I was making my way back to my bike, I heard a car lock its brakes. Luckily I was able to jump out of the way before he slammed into my motorcycle," Hall says.

Hall says the driver was driving too fast and had slammed on his brakes to avoid the person in front of him and swerved into the shoulder.

Hall warns drivers that when you see police, firefighters, or an ambulance in a lane of traffic, you have to move over to leave an extra lane between you and the stop, or drop your speed.

"You are subject to fines, or in severe cases, you can go to jail," Hall warns.
