PONDER (1080 KRLD) - A small Denton County community is struggling to come to grips with a murder suicide that left three young children dead.

A vigil was held last night for the three kids, with neighbors leaving stuffed animals and crosses near their home on Lone Star Park Lane.

The children were all age 5 or younger, allegedly shot and killed by their own father Justin Painter.

Painter reportedly shot their mother, Amanda Simpson, and killed her boyfriend Seth Richardson, before turning the gun on himself.

Simpson was the only one to survive and possibly needs shoulder surgery.

She posted an emotional Facebook live video from her hospital room where she's seen clutching a photo of her kids.

As she recovers, her neighbors hope that she can feel their support.

Officials say it all started when Simpson's ex husband came to her home, hoping to reconcile.

In her video Simpson claims her relationship with her ex was troubled, and she told a judge he was mentally unstable.

The Denton County Sheriff is assisting Ponder Police in the continuing investigation.

A GoFundMe link has been set up to assist the family with funeral and medical expenses
