Voters Pick Allred To Challenge Rep. Sessions For Congressional Seat

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - North Texas Democrats have decided on their candidate to take on Republican Congressman Pete Sessions this fall.

The Democratic party originally had a crowded field in the race for the party's nomination in Congressional District 32, which covers parts of north Dallas, Richardson and Garland.

It was one of three districts around the state currently held by Republicans that Democrats had targeted, because they believed they could be flipped.

The race came down to former NFL player and civil rights attorney Colin Allred, and businesswoman Lillian Salerno.

Both had experience working at the federal level during the Obama administration.

Allred won the run-off with a clear majority to claim the Democratic party's nomination.
