DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - An old east Dallas couple saw something a bit unusual when they were on their morning stroll.

Tim Teirnan and his wife say it wasn't but about 30 seconds into their walk when they noticed a dog that looked a little strange. Upon further examination, the animal they thought was a dog, turned out to be a wallaby.

Teirnan says he and his wife watched as the animal calmly jumped across his yard and into several neighboring areas.

Because the animal was not spooked and didn't appear to be threatened by people, Teirnan believed the animal to be someone's pet that had escaped.

Dallas Animal Services was called and after several attempts to capture the wallaby, and they were able to capture it in a large net.

The animal's owner reclaimed him at the animal shelter and presented the necessary permits to own it. Owning a wallaby in Dallas is illegal.

Turns out the wallaby was a boy named Muggsy.
