MCKINNEY (1080 KRLD) - McKinney police are asking for help as they continue to look for the person who shot into a crowd last week killing a  man.

It happened last Friday night when a crowd of about  30 people were gathered outside a home on Maples Ave in East McKinney.

Investigators say there was some type of altercation. Then someone pulled a gun and started shooting.

55-year-old James Penegar was hit. He was rushed to a hospital where he died. Police were able to talk with some people who stayed at the scene.

According to NBC 5, the victim's daughter, Takila Penegar, believes the crowd was gathered for a dice game. She says the altercation didn't involve her father and that the bullets weren't intended for him. "We want justice," Penegar said. "He walked away and the next thing I know there was a shooting."

They are trying to track down three men who fled.  At this point it's unclear if Penegar was a target.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to five thousand dollars for information that leads to an arrest.
