SOUTH TEXAS (1080 KRLD) - A popular Texas fast-food chain is sorry after a manager at one store refused to serve a police officer because of his gun.

Whataburger says it's sorry after a manager at a store in southeast Texas refused to serve a police officer because of his gun.

According to reports, a detective with the Friendswood Police Department went into a Whataburger in plain clothes with his gun holstered at his side, next to his badge.

He says he tried to explain he was a police officer, but the manager told him they don't serve those with weapons.

The detective left before anything escalated. Whataburger later issued a statement saying, "This was an unfortunate misunderstanding of our open carry policy, and we've reached out to the detective because we want to make this right."

Whataburger says it's going to review its policy with employees and require more training.
