DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The widow of an SMU police officer who drowned two years ago has filed suit against a real estate company, contractors and the cities of Dallas and Highland Park.

Marc McCullers was working as a security guard at a home that was under renovation when a flash flood swept him into Turtle Creek.

The house at 4100 St. John’s Drive in Highland Park butts against the creek.

The lawsuit claims parties knew the creek had a history of overflowing the banks during floods, yet they directed McCullers to sit in a car in the flood zone.

McCullers called for help when waters suddenly rose around his car. He was swept away when he tried to get out of the car.

His body was found months later.
