DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Ellis County DA’s office announced they will not charge a woman who lied about being sexually assaulted by a DPS trooper.

Official records show Sherita Dixon-Cole was arrested after she was pulled over for DWI.

According to her attorney Lee Merritt she was sexually assaulted by the DPS trooper. When official video of the arrest was released, Merritt quickly apologized for his role in elevating the false claim, saying it appears the trooper did nothing wrong.

Merritt’s posts on the woman’s claims were quickly picked up by New York-based activist and radio contributor Shaun King, who said she was kidnapped and raped by the trooper. His tweets have since been deleted.

DA Patrick Wilson in a statement says, "This office shares the outrage felt by the general public for the blatantly false and malicious allegations made by Dixon-Cole. But the law and the facts in this matter do not support the filing of criminal charges."
