Barbara Schwarz

Barbara was nearing her bachelor’s degree in psychology from UTD when she took a video production class and knew she had to pursue a career in broadcast journalism.  That led to an internship at KERA TV.  Barbara has been an associate producer at KDFW, a traffic reporter spotting congestion twice a day from Reunion Tower.  She’s run cameras and directed cable TV shows and lugged video cables at the Mesquite Rodeo.   Barbara was the only local broadcast reporter in New York on 9/11 and covered the disaster.

Barbara joined KRLD in 2001.  Her work on features and series, covering everything from capital punishment to breast cancer to cowgirls, have won over a dozen awards. More recently, Barbara’s weekly environmental story, The Greener Side was named best specialty report by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters.

A few fun facts: Barbara is a native Dallasite and first generation American.  Her parents were forced to flee their native Netherlands and Germany from Nazi persecution.  She’s a huge Mavs fan, voracious reader, avid movie goer and loves cats and horses.
